- Leaders Armenia lost to Israel with Levon Aronian losing to Boris Gelfand in a rook and pawn ending on top board and a final result of 2.5-1.5.
- Russia were defeated in Round 9 with three draws on boards 1-3 and their top rated player Morozevich lost on bottom board to Efimenko when he lost a piece. Kramnik - Ivanchuk was a fabulously uncompromising draw.
- Nigel Short's hot form continues as he won again, this time against Le Quang Liem. Michael Adams won (in spite of reporting to the contrary on the live site) and so England won 3-1.
- Round 10 pairings: Ukraine-Israel, Germany 1-United States of America, Serbia-Armenia, England-China, Slovenia-Russia, Spain-Bulgaria, Netherlands-Poland, Slovakia-France, Georgia-Denmark and Hungary-Switzerland,
